Your files never leave your computer.
Every tool runs on your computer using code built into the app and your operating system. Toolfox has no analytics, no accounts and no uploads, and it only goes online if you check for updates. Here is everything it keeps.
What Toolfox stores
| Data | What | Where | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| Preferences | Appearance, favorite tools, default save location | ~/Library/Application Support/app.toolfox.Toolfox/prefs.json | When you change a setting |
| Recent operations (optional) | Tool name, time, result, number of items, never file names, paths or contents | Same file | Only if you turn it on (off by default) |
| Temporary working files | Intermediate files while a tool runs | Your computer's temporary folder | Deleted on success, failure and cancel |
| Inline results | Formatted JSON, diffs, decoded Base64… | Memory only | Until you leave the tool; saved only when you click Save… |
What it never collects or sends
- File contents, file names or folder paths
- Text you paste into the JSON, CSV, Base64, Hash or Diff tools
- Photo, document or PDF metadata
- Analytics, telemetry, crash reports or usage statistics
- Advertising identifiers or tracking cookies
- Account details (there are no accounts)
Updates (only if you ask)
Toolfox never connects to the internet on its own. In Settings → Updates you can press Check for Updates, or turn on a weekly automatic check, which is off by default. A check downloads one small version file from this website; nothing about you, your computer or your files is sent. If you install an update, its digital signature is verified against a key built into Toolfox before anything is replaced.
How this was verified
In testing on macOS 26.6 (the platform measured so far), with update checks off (the default): the running app and its WebKit helper processes had zero open network connections; the app launched with all network access blocked by a macOS sandbox profile; and all 57 tools passed their automated test suite with networking blocked. HTML documents are converted with remote loading disabled, so images referenced from the internet are never fetched.
You're in control
Settings → Privacy shows the size of temporary files and offers Clear Temporary Files and Reset Toolfox, which removes preferences, favorites and history. Deleting uses normal file removal; on SSDs this isn't a forensic erase.
