Images · Compress Image to Size
Compress a photo to under 50 KB, 100 KB or any size
Quick answer
Open Toolfox → Compress Image to Size, drop your photos, pick a target like 20, 50, 100 or 200 KB (or a custom size) and click Compress. Toolfox starts at the highest quality and lowers quality, then pixel dimensions, only as far as needed, and files never end up larger than the target. It runs entirely on your computer (Mac, Windows or Linux). Files are never uploaded.
How to do it
- Open Compress Image to Size and drop one or more images.
- Choose the target size, and save as JPEG (accepted everywhere) or WebP (smaller).
- Optionally set the lowest quality allowed and whether dimensions may be reduced.
- Click Compress. Each result shows its size, quality and dimensions, saved as name-100kb.jpg.

Good to know
- Toolfox tries the highest quality first and only lowers quality, then pixel dimensions, as far as needed. Each result reports its size, quality and dimensions.
- A file that already meets the target in the chosen format is copied unchanged, so it isn't degraded (its metadata is kept too).
- Re-encoded files don't keep EXIF metadata (camera, GPS); EXIF rotation is applied first. JPEG keeps the color profile; lossy WebP treats colors as sRGB.
Compress Image to Size FAQ
Why is my photo still above 50 KB?
Toolfox never saves a file above the target; if it can't get there, it tells you and saves nothing. Keep “Reduce dimensions if needed” on, lower the lowest quality, or choose a larger target. 1 KB counts as 1000 bytes, so results also fit sites that count 1024.
Will my photo get smaller in pixels?
Only if needed. Below the lowest quality (40 by default) the image is made smaller in pixels instead, which usually looks better. Turn off “Reduce dimensions if needed” to prevent it.
What if my file is already small enough?
If it already meets the target in the chosen format, it's copied unchanged, so it isn't degraded.
