Files & Archives · Metadata Inspector
See and remove hidden metadata like GPS location on your computer
Quick answer
Drop a photo or PDF into Toolfox → Metadata Inspector to see camera, GPS, author and software data, with sensitive fields highlighted. Switch to “Save a cleaned copy” to remove EXIF, XMP and comments without re-encoding the image. It runs entirely on your computer (Mac, Windows or Linux). Files are never uploaded.
How to do it
- Open Metadata Inspector and drop files.
- Review fields. GPS and serial numbers are highlighted.
- Choose “Save a cleaned copy” and what to remove.
- Click Save Cleaned Copies; photo orientation is preserved.
Options you can set
- Remove EXIF (camera, GPS, dates)
- Keep photo orientation
- Remove XMP (editing history, keywords)
- Remove comments and text chunks
- Remove color profile
- Remove PDF document properties
Good to know
- Inspection reads any file. Removal supports JPEG, PNG, WebP and PDF, without re-encoding pixels or page content.
- Cleaned copies don't carry extended file attributes such as the “Where from” download URL macOS records.
- PDF metadata removal clears document properties and XMP; text inside pages is not changed.
