Add page numbers to a PDF on your computer
Quick answer
Open Toolfox → Add Page Numbers, drop your PDFs, choose a position and a format (1, Page 1, 1 / N or Page 1 of N) and click Add Page Numbers. You can skip a cover page, start from any number, and set the font size, color and distance from the edge. It runs entirely on your computer (Mac, Windows or Linux). Files are never uploaded.
How to do it
- Open Add Page Numbers and drop one or more PDFs.
- Choose a position (top or bottom; left, center or right) and a format.
- Set “Start numbering on page” to skip a cover, and “First number” to start from any number.
- Click Add Page Numbers. The copy is saved as name (numbered).pdf.

Good to know
- N is the last page number the document would reach, counting from the start page.
- Numbers are placed relative to how each page is displayed, including rotated pages. Existing content isn't re-encoded, and nothing checks whether a number overlaps text already on the page.
- Password-protected PDFs need Unlock PDF first.

How do I skip the cover page?
Set “Start numbering on page” to 2. Earlier pages get no number, and “First number” sets what the first numbered page shows.
Will the numbers cover my text?
They might. Numbers sit at the distance from the edge you choose (36 pt, half an inch, by default), and nothing checks whether one overlaps text already on the page.
Does it work with rotated pages?
Yes. Numbers are placed relative to how each page is displayed, and existing content isn't re-encoded.
